REGIONAL
CONTEXT.
The municipality of El Doncello is located in
the Northeast of the Department of Caquetá, 65 kilometers north of its capital
Florence. The municipal seat is 373 meters above sea level and registers an
average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius. According to the geographical
position, El Doncello is located at 1 ° 40´ 46¨ north latitude and 75 ° 16´ 45¨
west longitude with respect to the Meridian of Greenwich and delimits to the
north with the Department of Huila; to the east, with the Municipality of Puerto
Rico; to the south with the municipalities of El Paujil and Cartagena del
Chaira and to the west with the Municipality of El Paujil.
The
geophysical territory is made up of four morphological groups: mountain range
landscape that is part of the eastern flank of the Eastern Cordillera and
presents very steep slopes; piedmont landscape located in the center of the
municipality and on which the populated center rises; lomerío landscape
(undulating plateau); and landscape of valleys located to the southeast by the
margin of the Guayas river basin.
The municipality has a particular and privileged location in the north of the department. It is located in the Andean-Amazonian subregion and stands as the central population of the piedmont road cord with the highest population concentration and potential recipient of development, thanks to the possibilities of land communication, which make it a strategic municipality as a bridge for the supply of services.
At the end of
the 19th century, large groups of settlers arrived, attracted by the boom in
the exploitation of cinchona and rubber, which led to the beginning of
Caqueteña history. When the rubber industry went into decline, many rubber
tappers emigrated to other territories and those who remained in these lands
became farmers. As of 1932 the colonization took a new impulse due to the
Colombian-Peruvian conflict. In 1933 the Guadalupe-Florence highway was built,
giving a new advance, but the development as such began in the 1950s with the
time of violence; This forced families from other regions such as Antioquia,
Huila and Tolima to settle in these lands.
At the
beginning of the 20th century, there were no such abrupt or significant changes
in the population outlook .. and only because of the rubber boom did
settlements and roots appear in various regions of the Amazonian territory,
where ethnic elements or Andean, coastal and coastal subjects are combined.
peripherals. The transformations of social life, the massive migrations of
peasants to the urban area, characterize the current urban problems and justify
the formation of marginal conglomerates (invasions) and the accelerated
population growth of El Doncello. Only at the end of the 20th century, in the
80s, there was a population increase in Caquetá due to the boom in coke
production, bringing as a consequence socioeconomic problems, becoming evident
in a drastic change in the culture of the Caqueteños, specifically in the
Doncellenses.
